When I get together at various gatherings – especially with people I do not know, I love to see the look on their faces when I tell them what I do. It’s always fun to catch them by surprise. I especially remember back when I was starting out. I worked part-time with my husband and full-time as a secretary at a school. I still remember the interview. I went through my usual well-rehearsed answers to their typical interview questions. Then they asked me one I didn’t expect. “So can you tell us anything interesting about yourself that we do not already know?” I just smiled. There were many people trying for this position. I knew I nailed all the answers at this point because I did my homework and knew exactly what they were looking for before I even walked through the door. I needed something to make me stand out from the rest and I knew exactly what that was. “Well, I am a licensed Private Investigator in New York and Connecticut” I replied. I sat back, smiling as I watched the reaction of surprise. “I bet you didn’t see that one coming,” I said with a grin. They, of course, did not see that coming and asked me about what it is like and where I handle most of my cases. I tell them (in generalities) about two of my old cases – one in Howard Beach, NY and one that had me all over Bayside, Queens. Needless to say I got their attention as well as the job.
Now, years later, I am working with my husband in the company he has worked so hard to make the success it is today, working full time doing what we both love – helping people get answers to questions or problems that life has thrown at them. It’s a tough world, and with it comes some tough issues, especially in the “Covid-19 Era” that we are living through at the moment. The last year has been tough for everyone. In the very beginning, everyone was forced to stay at home and I watched the city I love go into hibernation. But now it is slowly waking up and people are starting to emerge back into the real world once again. From Rosedale to Bellerose, NY people are finally starting to go out to eat, go to movies etc. and with that, comes the opportunity once again to cheat.
Unlike many PI’s and professionals in this field, I have a unique advantage by being a woman in a predominantly and historically male-oriented line of work. I am more able to get closer without being noticed and hide in plain sight, since no one suspects a woman of being a PI. That gives me the advantage in many of our cases, especially our infidelity cases. I can relate from a woman’s perspective and understand how you feel when you have been blindsided by someone you trust and love, someone you thought you would spend your life with, only to find that they are leading a double life with someone else. I’ve seen the pain in the woman’s eyes when we meet to discuss the case. They have children, a home and a life with someone they have dedicated themselves to, only to find out their partner is not the person they thought they were and it is all a lie.
You need to be a woman to understand how deep that hurts. We will be devoted to the end and dedicate our lives to you – but don’t piss us off. Once we lose trust, we cross that fine line from love to hate and you’d better watch out. This is, unfortunately, the point they are at when they come to meet with us. They are shocked, broken-hearted and hurt and what they need now are answers. Answers that deep down they may not want to know, but realize they must in order to move on and get some closure. We are there to help them as best we can to find these answers.
Now don’t get me wrong. We help many men in the same situations as well. These poor souls are out there working long hours busting their butts to provide for their families. They are devoted and hardworking and would do anything for their partners. To find out that while they are wearing themselves into the ground working long hours, making that commute every day into Manhattan all the way from Garden City, Long Island, that their spouse is out playing around when their children are in school breaks my heart. We want to help them just as much.
You see, part of being a female Private Investigator, especially one that is part of a “husband and wife” team, gives us a very unique perspective. We bounce ideas off each other all the time. We play through various scenarios and can then see it more clearly from the other sex’s point of view. That gives us a powerful advantage over other investigators. Each case is a “two-for-one” when it comes to dedicated detectives that are passionate about our work. We truly feel that we were meant to choose this career path and to be able to help people at a very, very difficult time when they need someplace to turn, which is life-changing for us as well as the client.
This also holds true for other investigations that we do. When we help a parent track down a child that has not contacted them in far too long, as parents ourselves we want to help confirm that their son or daughter is ok. When a business owner has an employee out on worker’s compensation for an extended period of time, we can confirm that the employee is either still recovering, or perhaps out playing Lacrosse in Floral Park with the kids with their “back injury” that is keeping them from coming back to work. We do our best to help all of our clients get the truth.
We do want you to understand, however, that as a Private Investigator and a woman, that the truth is very important to me. That is why when you come to us, we will do our best to give you that truth. That can be what you want to hear or what you don’t, but it will be whatever we find, to the best of our abilities. We sometimes find that there is no proof of cheating, whether it is infidelity or worker’s comp. However, when there is lying involved, we will keep going as long as the client wants us to until we get to the bottom of it. That provides you with the answers you need, and us with the satisfaction that we helped you get those answers. So when you are ready for it, come to us and we will be there to help. I look forward to working with you and adding you to our growing list of satisfied customers.
